SPECTRUM! SPECTRUM! SPECTRUM!

There hasn’t been a lot of action on here for a while (I hope some of you might still be hanging around…) – I have been super busy with a number of exciting projects and in a few weeks, I hope to get back to more regular activity.

Of course, the city has still been filled with work, and there is plenty to catch up on, Devos coming out on top of Style Walls for 2015, and the arrival of a few big names for Oi YOU!’s Spectrum that opens on Saturday – get to the YMCA for some mind-blowing stuff by the awesome roster of contributing artists – such as Buff Monster, Tilt, Sofles, Adnate, Flox, Owen Dippie, Jacob Yikes, Wongi Freak Wilson, Ikarus, Dcypher, Porta, Dr Suits, Jen, Xpres One, and many more form all around the world…

Weekend Update

The opening of CAPD on Saturday night in New Brighton  was choice! The space was packed out with goodness all round, lots of work was snapped up, but if you haven’t been down to check it out yet, there is still plenty to see and potentially add to your collection – from paintings to prints to stickers and paste-ups, by a range of exciting talent; Yikes, Morepork, Power, Teeth, Rob Kay (Shit’s about to get dainty), Dr Suits, Jen Brown, Devos One, and Porta himself, as well as heaps more…

Porta will be there all week before it closes on Saturday afternoon. Find it in Carnaby Mall next to Switch Espresso and across the way from the Paper Plus…

You could totally kit yourself out…

Server Blues

Ok, so some of you might have noticed a couple of posts have disappeared. It isn’t a case of editing or censorship, but a problem with our server – unfortunately we couldn’t save all our files and the most recent posts were lost like a tag under a grey buff. It is unfortunate as I thouht there were some interesting ideas at play – regarding the effect of increasing permissioned work and expectations and the buffing of the central city and what it means in relation to the city’s recovery and actual attitude to urban art, to which APEK had a valid comment that expressed doubts that Christchurch is really ready to become a ‘street art capital’. Although these posts and discussions may have been lost, the idea of What Is That? as a place for such discussion continues…

Rise Video…

The Selina Miles shot and cut video for Rise has been floating around for a couple of days, but I thought I would post it as well – after all it is worth spreading as much as possible…

The video features interviews and work by Askew, Beastman, BMD, Thom Buchanan, Berst, Eno, Ghstie (aka Sean Duffell), Ikarus, Anthony Lister, Paulie, Quench, ROA, Sofles, Milton Springsteen, Ian ‘Kid Zoom’ Strange, Vans the Omega, Daek William, Wongi and Yikes…

Stills by Luke Shirlaw…
